Why is it called Black Hills Gold?

The Black Hills of South Dakota were named by the Sioux for the thick pine forests which looked black when seen from the Plains. Gold was discovered during an expedition of the area which lead to what is know as the last great gold rush of the western frontier. Therefore goldsmiths traveled to the Black Hills of South Dakota.

In the middle of the 1870’s, Henry Le Beau a French gold smith found himself lost in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He fell asleep thinking that he would die of starvation or thirst. While asleep he dreamed of a mountain stream with grapevines growing on the banks. He did in fact wake up and started walking, low and behold just as in his dream he came across a mountain stream with grapevines growing on the banks.  The shape of those grapevines led to the design of Black Hills Gold Jewelry.

Henry Le Beau and his apprentice S.T. Butler opened the first Black Hills Gold company  in 1878 and later divided into two corporations which were the Black Hills Gold Jewelry Manufacturing Company and the F.L. Thorpe Company. Today there are many Black Hills Gold Manufacturers in this region.Most people believe this is a certain type of gold when in fact it refers to the grape leaves, clusters and grapevines.  To create the different colors in the jewelry, silver and copper are added to the yellow gold. To get the green color silver is added to the yellow gold and copper is added to the yellow gold to get the rose and pink colors.

There are many steps in the process of making this Jewelry. The gold, silver and copper are melted and shaped into bars. They are then rolled into different thicknesses according to the type of jewelry being made and stamped into these bars are the patterns and dies. The base of the jewelry is cast from other gold bars. There is more to Black Hills Gold jewelry than just a name. It is a unique form of art that remains to this day a popular jewelry. All the jewelry is inspected several times and is high in quality and beauty.

Black Hills Gold must be manufactured in this region by the ruling of a federal judge in the 1980’s. The gold itself does not have to come from theBlack Hills. The design and concept of the jewelry has changed very little over the years, and continues to be a leader in the industry.

This particular Jewelry is made in several types of jewelry consisting of rings, toe rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets and watches.  They are made of Gold and Silver inSouth Dakota,USA. According to legend, good luck comes to all those who wear this   jewelry.

 I received a Black Hills Gold necklace as a gift when I was a teenager and I loved it. Since then I have acquired many pieces. Try some for yourself or send as gifts and you or the person you buy for will love them also. Black Hills Gold Jewelry for all occasions at competitive prices

Not all Gold Dearlers are Dishonest

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — As cash-strapped consumers sell their gold to pay for everyday necessities, complaints against gold dealers have risen. The biggest offenders according to a recent tally on the Better Business Bureau’s website, BBB.org, are cash for gold buying companies advertising heavily to buy unwanted gold jewelry on cable television channels. One company had 369 complaints in the previous 36 months. Another had 197. The complaints range from pricing discrepancies and misleading advertising to customer service issues and claims for lost shipments.

“Not every Internet gold buyer is dishonest,” says Michael H. Gusky, whose company, GoldFellow.com has no complaints against it after serving more than 60,000 customers. “GoldFellow.com,” according to Gusky, “was created to provide consumers a safe, competitive and easy method to sell unwanted gold, sterling silver and platinum.”

What makes a piece of jewelry Black Hills Gold?

10K Black Hills Gold Horsehead with 12K Black Hills Gold Leaves Heart. 10K Black Hills Gold Grapes and Vine. Pendant measures 13/16″ tall. 18″ 12/20 Gold filled chain.

What makes a piece of jewelry Black Hills Gold? It has the unique traditional design comprised of pink and green gold leaves, gold grape clusters and vines and it must, by law, be manufactured in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

How are the green and pink-colored gold leaves made? Pure 24 karat yellow gold is alloyed with silver to create the vibrant green, and is alloyed with copper to make the dazzling pink. The resulting alloy is a more durable 12 karat gold.

What karat is Black Hills Gold? Nearly all pieces, regardless of manufacturer, are comprised of 10 karat yellow gold (ring shanks, pendant and earring bases), 12 karat pink and green gold (leaves, roses, hearts, butterflies etc..), 14 karat gold earring posts and complimentary gold-filled (1/20 12 karat) 18″ chains for pendants. Select wedding sets are made with 14 karat gold shanks, and some companies even offer white gold for the ring shanks.

How to Clean Black Hills Silver

12K Black Hills Gold Leaves with Sterling Silver Grapes, Vines and Shank. Ring measures apprx. 3/8″ across.

All silver jewelry tarnishes because of compounds in the air. Black Hills silver jewelry make look especially dull because of its delicate carving, but it can be easily cleaned. Strong jewelry cleaners may damage your piece so use mild detergents instead.

Difficulty:
Easy

Instructions
Things You’ll Need

* Mild detergent Warm water Soft bristled toothbrush Soft cloth Mild Toothpaste
* 1
Mix mild dish detergent and warm water in a small container. If your Black Hills silver jewelry contains no semi-precious stones, such as pearls and opals, soak the pieces in the mixture for a few minutes. If your jewelry does have semi-precious stones, skip the detergent and just soak the pieces in warm water.
* 2
Use a soft bristled toothbrush to buff the dirt and tarnish off of your jewelry. Be sure to clean the hidden crevices, such as the area underneath the stone mountings.
* 3
Rinse the detergent off your jewelry and the toothbrush. Make sure no detergent residue remains.
* 4

Dry your jewelry with a soft cloth.
* 5
If your jewelry is especially tarnished, coat it with a mild toothpaste such as regular Crest or Colgate using a toothbrush. Do not apply toothpaste if your jewelry contains semi-precious stones.
* 6
Let the toothpaste set on the jewelry for a few minutes before rinsing it off. Use a soft cloth to gently dry the piece of jewelry. If you like, you can use a silver-polishing cloth, but it’s not required.
